We Participated in the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy
TUSEV participated in the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, held in Bucharest from May 15-18, as part of the Monitoring Freedom of Association Project financed by the European Union in collaboration with the Civil Society Development Center (STGM). The forum featured politicians, academics, journalists, and representatives from public, private sectors, and civil society as speakers. It addressed the declining trust in elections and democratic institutions, emphasizing alternative mechanisms like direct and participatory democracy. Ahead of the European Parliament elections from June 6-9, the forum highlighted the importance of ensuring active citizen participation in decision-making processes to restore trust in democracy and governments. Topics included leveraging new technologies, removing barriers to freedom of expression and assembly, civic education, solutions to enhance political rights for youth, women, and marginalized groups, and sharing experiences from local councils and national referendums worldwide.
