Grant Making

In Türkiye, another key area of focus for TÜSEV is grantmaking, aimed at diversifying the resources available to CSOs and ensuring that these resources are widely accessible and capable of addressing the current needs of civil society organizations. Globally, grant programs are commonly seen as a central function of foundations. However, we increasingly encounter practices where various actors, interested in contributing to the solution of different problems, establish their own grant programs.

This approach, which can be summarized as the mobilization of resources by various actors—whether their own or those they have developed—to support civil society through specific grant programs, with the aim of contributing to the development of civil society and fostering sustainable solutions in areas where CSOs have expertise, is now among the primary funding sources for CSOs on a global scale.

As TÜSEV, we prioritize increasing the number of grant-making organizations in Türkiye, diversifying the areas in which grant programs are established, and thereby enabling a greater number of CSOs working in various fields to benefit from these resources. Additionally, we closely follow new grant-making methods being implemented both in Türkiye and globally, and we strive to bring these approaches to the attention of our relevant stakeholders.

We continue to meet regularly throughout the year with the Grant Making Organisations Working Group, which we established as part of the Philanthropy Infrastructure Development Project, which we implemented between 2011 and 2021 to develop the culture of philanthropy and strengthen the philanthropic infrastructure in Türkiye.
