As TUSEV, we attended the 2024 Philea Forum. Philea brings together institutions working in the field of philanthropy in Europe. Our Secretary General, Rana Kotan, participated in the forum. During the pre-forum meeting, Kotan was re-elected as the chair of Philea’s Nomination and Governance Committee for a second term.
This year’s forum, held in Ghent, Belgium, centered around the theme “Trust and Philanthropy.” The discussions addressed the challenges faced by philanthropic organizations amid declining public trust in institutions and rising demands for democracy, equality, climate action, and social justice. The forum explored methods to combat disinformation and practical strategies for building trust between institutions and generations. It examined the roots and branches of trust deficits and how these impede the ability of foundations to address complex, interconnected challenges. The principles of trust-based philanthropy and why these principles are gaining momentum to help balance the dynamics between funders, grantees, and the communities they serve were also discussed.
