The Individual Giving and Philanthropy in Türkiye 2024 Report is now available in English

We are delighted to announce the release of the English translation of the Individual Giving and Philanthropy in Türkiye 2024 Report. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the study, which has been shedding light on giving trends in Türkiye since 2004. Published every three years since 2015, the report has become a key reference on philanthropy and giving in the country, authored by Prof. Dr. Ali Çarkoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Güneş Ertan of Koç University’s Center for Civil Society and Philanthropy Research.

What stands out in the 2024 Report?

Disaster Giving: Following the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes, 25% of donations were made directly to civil society organizations (CSOs). This rate exceeds that of both direct giving and those made through public institutions.

Rise in Volunteering: While the volunteering rate in CSOs was 6% in 2004, it increased to 13% in 2024. However, between 2021 and 2024, volunteering rates either stagnated or declined.

Regular Giving: 65% of the population reported donating after the earthquake, but only 13% continue to make regular donations. Still, the sustained engagement of this small segment represents an important step for the development of a culture of philanthropy in Türkiye.

Trust in Institutions: Trust in public institutions and CSOs remained low in 2024. This lack of trust prevents the full utilization of existing financial and human resources during times of crisis.
