The Reputation of Civil Society

Following our transition to the Policy Governance method in 2020, our Civil Society Reputation program area was born out of a concrete need to improve the reputation of civil society and civil society organisations in the eyes of different stakeholders in order to achieve our Ends Policies as TUSEV. Since the day our program area was defined, we have conducted various research to identify the steps that can respond to this need.

In 2019 and 2021, we conducted research on the reputation of civil society in Türkiye and reported the perceptions and opinions of stakeholders (2019 n: 959, 2021 n: 993) consisting of general public, university students, academics, media members, CSO staff, private sector organisations, employees and TUSEV members on civil society and its reputation. To complement the findings of this research, we also conducted In 2020, we also conducted an insight study. Through this study, we aimed to understand the underlying reasons behind the quantitative data we gathered on the perception of civil society’s reputation among various stakeholder groups in Türkiye. The goal was to identify strategic steps that could transform the existing perception.

We analysed the factors that influence the reputation of civil society in more detail in the study, which was divided into two main sections: the Journey of Participation in Civil Society and the Motivations and Insights and Areas of Action for the Perception of Reputation.

In addition to our efforts to increase the reputation of civil society at the local level, we are members of many organisations that are active in the areas in which we operate globally. Through these memberships, we follow the global civil society agenda on various issues. Primarily benefiting from these memberships in areas such as monitoring, policy development, staying informed about new methods and trends, and contributing to communities, we also represent civil society in Türkiye at the international level through these affiliations.
