Translation of the Council of Europe’s “Guidelines for Civil Participation in Political Decision-Making” Published
The unofficial translation of the document “Guidelines for Civil Participation in Political Decision-Making,” prepared by the Council of Europe and adopted by 47 member countries, including Türkiye, on September 27, 2017, has been published by TÜSEV. The primary aim of the guidelines is to strengthen the participation of civil society organizations and, more broadly, civil society in political decision-making processes. To this end, the guidelines outline fundamental principles to guide the member countries of the Council of Europe. Additionally, the guidelines propose practices that promote sustainable mechanisms at all levels to facilitate dialogue, consultation, and cooperation between civil society and public authorities.
The Council of Europe Guidelines for Civil Participation in Political Decision-Making provide an essential infrastructure for states and civil society to work together to strengthen democracy, alongside other existing texts such as the Recommendation on the Legal Status of Non-Governmental Organizations in Europe adopted by the Council of Europe in 2007 and the Principles of Civil Participation in Decision-Making developed in 2009.
