To discuss the second book in the Civil Society Series, “The Most Good You Can Do: How Effective Altruism is Changing Ideas About Living Ethically,” we organized an online talk with its author, Peter Singer, on February 28, 2024. The book, published as part of the series launched in collaboration with Koç University Press (KÜY) and the Koç University Center for Civil Society and Philanthropy Research (KUSITHAM), focuses on the concept of altruism. Singer argues that the concept of philanthropy, long debated in civil society, needs to be viewed from a different perspective. During the talk, moderated by Itır Erhart, topics such as who can be considered an effective altruist, the relationship between effective altruism and sacrifice, the connection between altruism and happiness, and the position of this approach in supporting long-term advocacy activities were discussed. You can watch the recording of the talk, presented with Turkish translation support, on our YouTube channel.
